of quiet symbolism and a strong rooted belief in self-improvement

The gecko motif of Fit Bloc, an indoor fitness, rock climbing, and swimming gym and studio, symbolises the willingness to change and adapt to the environment as a means of self-improvement. By tapping on the branding as a source of inspiration, the interior was  shaped to suit the company’s ethos, thereby creating a lifestyle and learning hub that is not solely restricted to a spot for physical activities.

Fit Bloc was designed in a way where each space has its own unique purpose and seems almost colour coded with the use of both bright and calming colours to add vibrancy to the space and to make it pop. Decorated with loose pieces of pastel-coloured footstools, the reception is painted with an array of colours ranging from a cool, light grey to a sweet shade of dusty pink that aims to segregate the gym from its location in the often serious and stressful R&D and technology district of Singapore whilst forming its identity as a calming place for gym goers to unwind from a rough day of work.

Next to the reception, the walkway to the gym instantly turns a stark, bright green with an identically forest green brick wall — affectionately dubbed the ‘social media wall’ — complete with a pole designed to mirror the silhouette of a mountain for customers to hang from and snap photos at; as well as an eye-catching green turf wall fitted with motivational quotes with dual meanings depending on how they are read.

Similar to the seemingly imposing rock climbing wall that spans two floors with its multi-coloured holds, the spacious room where the wall is is all decked out in big blocks of bright yellow, navy, and dark grey that further lengthens and widens the room, creating an inviting space for all to gather. A communal space for chance encounters, it is an area where like-minded individuals meet and understand each other.

Implementing a myriad of colours to a singular space not only adds life and fun, it also serves to lift one’s mood while reiterating through subtle symbolism the local startup’s belief that change, despite being a daunting concept to many, is a surefire way to lead you onto the right track to personal growth and improvement.
