KOPI-C

A personal forest within the garden city

Considering Whampoa’s identity as a housing estate filled with endless high-rise buildings and minimal traces of nature, it is little wonder that the owners of this mid-century styled 4-room flat wanted to own a little piece of the latter in their new, spacious abode.

Welcoming guests into the home are splashes of both white washed wood and dark walnut vinyl flooring, along with calming forest green walls against a white base to replicate the look of an urban forest.

Despite the eye-catching contrast colour wood floors, the star of the show, however, is the custom made multi-faceted TV console that doubles as a storage bench, deliberately created with a stone-like laminate finish to complete the look of the living room.

LED lights were also installed beneath the TV console that quite literally highlights its existence while adding to the dreamy effect of the space.

The TV console stretches in a tight U-shape to the dining room — a space that was only constructed by knocking down the walls of the kitchen, yard, and a spare bedroom in order to create a larger collective space for loved ones to meet and gather.

Echoing the style of the living room, the kitchen is also partially painted in forest green and decked out in a mix of light and dark wood. Similarly, the yard is embellished with various species of plants, creating a mini garden within the “forest”.

The only distinct difference lies in the backsplash of the kitchen which was adorned with chevron tiles to add some much needed contrast.

With this many elements incorporated into one single flat, one can’t help but compare it to a strong, fragrant brew of kopi C, a local coffee staple loved by many — practical, yet whimsical; calming, yet so full of energy.
