To hug, to show affection, to include, to accept — that is what an embrace is all about. Like an embrace, this apartment embodies the owners’ love for each other, their common interests, their pets, and their willingness to deviate from the norms of local interior design, as well as how a modern Singaporean home should look.

Originally a 5-room flat, Embrace was transformed into a home with a single bedroom and a dedicated space for the homeowners’ chinchillas and cats.

Sharp corners are replaced with curved walls wherever possible, lending the space a soft and gentle touch, and simultaneously creating a safer environment for the animals to traverse in. If it was not already clear just how much the owners love their furry friends, it will be obvious once one realises that the pet room is connected to the master bedroom and the walk-in wardrobe, allowing the animals to freely roam around the place that they also call home.

The apartment boasts an open floor plan, combining the living room, dining room, and study rooms. The study areas are, however, separated into two areas — his and hers — a tiny private enclave for each of the owners in an otherwise open concept home.

Although engulfed in light grey and beige, the space avoids looking dreary with its masterful use of warm, comfortable lighting. The main bedroom features a hand-drawn LED light that stretches from the wall to the ceiling, effectively transforming the room into a mini art gallery — a niche design choice rarely opted for by most.
